Spring Series Has Rough Beginning

RC Laser Spring Series Began by exposing many problems for both boats and skippers.  While many of our fleet were away on spring break those that weren’t were eager to get in the water.

THE PROBLEMS:  Sean Quigley developed a transmitter/receiver problem before the first race had begun.  We tried changing batteries and battery holder in an effort to solve the problem but nothing worked. Our solution was to keep him racing with my boat which was making a constant ticking sound coming  from the main sail servo. That lasted for about an hour until the servo decided to quit completely.  We then decided to use my transmitter/ receiver in his boat that had working servos to keep him racing for the last hour.  Anne Lambert had her rechargeable batteries fail after 30 minutes and needed to replace them before she could continue.  Barb Urich missed the first race wanting to be fashionably late and Jay Niggli missed the first six races realizing he needed to go back home and get his transmitter.

The weather was perfect for a spring day of racing.  The temperature was in the high 60s, sunny, and winds that came and went every 10 minutes 2 knots up to 6 knot with a few gusts thrown in.  We were able to get in 8 races with two hours of racing.  Richard Mikulec ripped off 3 wins  early, then Nate Heinzelman and Jack Bennett each had 2, while I struggled to win one borrowing Jack’s boat.

Next week we will be racing at CYC off the south dock 2-4pm  Sunday April 30th.  I’m looking forward to another Sunny day in the 60s with plenty of wind..
